The bastide of Castillonnès, founded
in 1259 by Alphonse de Poitiers has a cloistered square, a covered area (hall)
with a " pepperpot " clock tower.
The
town-Hall and the tourist office
are
situated
in a lovely and typical building : the old govenor house with a beautiful renaissance-style
main courtyard and an antique tithe barn.
The
Mouthe promenade will
lead you to the fortified enclosures remains : the Guirlity postern, the Valets
fortified gate and some elegant eighteenth century houses. You will be able
to visit the church too, with its baroque-style altarpiece and its modern and
non-figurative stained glass windows.
Following
the small country roads you will enjoy our nearly charming villages
and you will discover :
Tumulus, half-timbered
houses, pigeon houses, windmills, watermills, castle and majestic
houses, witnesses of a rich historic past. |
